Solar panels to be set up in all high schools in Odisha’s Ganjam district

Solar panels will soon be installed in all government-run high schools in Odisha’s Ganjam district as part of an initiative to make these schools energy-independent. The district administration, under the leadership of Ganjam Collector Vijay Kulange, aims to promote sustainable solar energy and raise awareness among students about renewable and alternative energy resources.

Out of the 535 government high schools in the district, infrastructure facilities have already been developed in 366 schools as part of the state’s 5T (Technology, Teamwork, Time, Transparency leading to Transformation) initiative and the ‘Mo School’ (My School) Abhiyaan. The installation of solar panels is expected to reduce electricity bills for these transformed schools, which had increased after renovation.

The solar panel installation is scheduled to begin on April 1, and the entire project is set to be completed within six months, with an estimated cost of Rs 9 crore. Funding for the project will be sourced from corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds of various companies and contributions from Mo Schools. The solar energy generation units will provide 2 kW and 4 kW energy capacities for small and large high schools, respectively.
